Review: Goblin

Language: Korean

Release year: 20

Episodes: 16

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Drama

A human General, cursed to become a goblin with eternal life; only his destined bride can release him from the curse. Except, he waits not long, but just 900 years to find his teen bride.

Elements of fantasy, melodrama and comedy blend so well in the series that the audience should prepare beforehand for a wild ride of emotions. The enticing soundtracks at perfect timings create just the right ambience every time; one of which holds the record of being the most viewed K-drama OST on Youtube with a difference of nearly 90m views with the second one in chart.

The overall plot and story-board definitely deserve one of the highest ratings in the history of Korean dramas. Not only the camera works and lightings are pleasing to the eyes, but also the appearances of the characters and the set-decors are satisfyingly aesthetic. The dialogues are so well-written that no viewer remains without the feeling of contentment and without remembering Kim Shin’s famous dialogue,

“Every moment I spent with you shined. Because the weather was good, because the weather was bad and because the weather was good enough - I loved every moment of it.”

Not a single actor and actress put less-skilled performance in any of the scenes. In fact, actress Kim Go Eun’s famous “crying scene” shakes even the strong-hearted ones with a sudden rush of Ji Eun Tak’s grief.

A nice way to start experiencing K-drama, and even better if you are already accustomed to the language to catch the tricky and cultural humor.
